 Character of The Great Gatsby When we think about 'The Great Gatsby', we think about fun people in the 20s having fun and partying all the time. We think about people with a lot of money spending it on parties. Great, love it. Who wouldn't want to live their life like that? But the part that people seem to decide to ignore is that at the time there was a lot of hypocrisy, sexism, racism and many other horrible things. Since the beginning of the book we can evidence this type of attitudes, that where even normalized at the time, on Tom: a rich white man who is racist and sexist; not only that but also selfish and arrogant. That on men's side, in women we can see superficial and gossipy woman. NO character has something great or at least good on them to highlight.
